DOI (Digital Object Identifier): Need Full Text?

This guide will explain a DOI and show you how to use it in your bibliography.

I have a DOI. What do I do with it?

When you have a DOI, there are four important elements to remember.

  1. A DOI does not guarantee access to the full text. It will only tell you where to find the article online. Typically, searching for a DOI in Google Scholar or the Web will take you to the publisher's website. To get free full text access, you must use VC/UHV Library resources like InterLibrary Loan (ILL).
  2. The best place to search using a DOI is with Google Scholar.
  3. If you cannot find the information you need, please call the Reference Librarian at 361-570-4166.

Search using Google Scholar

You can search using Google Scholar to find citation information or the full text. You can set up Google Scholar to link to full text available through the VC/UHV Library. Please review the Google Scholar Study Guide for help on setting up your Scholar Preferences.

To search using Google Scholar, enter the DOI into the search box and click search.
