American Counseling Association

The American Counseling Association advocates for its members to engage in a decision making process when faced with an ethical dilemma and to use the Code of Ethics as a guide during the decision making process.

American School Counselor Association

A division of the ACA, the American School Counselor Association Ethical Standards for School Counselors addresses the ethical behavior of people working with minors in a school setting. The Ethical Standards for School Counselors were created to "clarify the nature of ethical responsibilities held in common by school counselors, supervisors/directors of school counseling programs and school counselor educators."

National Board for Certified Counselors

The National Board for Certified Counselors Code of Ethics "establishes the minimum ethical behaviors and provides an expectation of and assurance for the ethical practice" of all national certified counselors. 


The Code of Ethics governing licensed professional counselors in Texas is located at Title 22, Part 30, Chapter 681, Subchapter C of the Texas Administrative Code.
